Initial Office Visit
(Length of Visit: 45 minutes to 1 hour)
Complete the New Patient Forms
Upon entering our office, we will request that you complete our new patient forms, unless you have already completed the Online Forms located in this New Patient Center. Completing the online forms will save you time from filling them out at our office. This paperwork provides us with your health history and the specific information about your condition.
Next, you will have a thorough consultation with Dr. Steven Goodstein to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This will allow the doctor to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic, as well as other forms of wellness care can meet your goals.
After your consultation, Dr. Goodstein will perform a physical exam to thoroughly evaluate the status and function of your muscles, joints, nerves and posture as they relate to your chief complaints. This exam may consist of range of motion testing, palpation of the spine and muscles, and muscle strength testing, as well as standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests. This physical exam will allow Dr. Goodstein to determine the cause of your problem.
X-Rays or MRI Imaging Studies (optional)
If necessary, based upon the severity of your condition, Dr. Goodstein may suggest the need for x-rays or an MRI of the spine. This can help the doctor to develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. If any of these tests are indicated, Dr. Goodstein will write you a script and refer you to an appropriate imaging facility.
If you are a first time patient to chiropractic and never had a chiropractic treatment before, the doctor will usually wait to do your first treatment on the next visit. This will allow him the time to explain how chiropractic treatments work and what is involved so that all of your concerns can be addressed.
If you have been to a chiropractor before and are familiar with chiropractic treatments, upon your request, and depending upon the doctor's findings, a treatment can be done at the conclusion of this initial appointment. This may include Spinal Adjustments, Massage Therapy, deep tissue Trigger Point Therapy and/or other physiotherapy modalities depending upon your condition.
